Keep Your BIG MOUTH Shut!
By Brian Price 12/20/2013

"Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties." - Psalms 141:3-4

The tongue is such a dangerous member of the body. So much so, that Jesus actually said that it is by the words of our tongue that we are either justified or condemned. "And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things: LAYING WAIT FOR HIM, AND SEEKING TO CATCH SOMETHING OUT OF HIS MOUTH, that they might accuse him," (Luke 11:53-54). The words we speak ought to be carefully chosen not only because of consideration for others, but also because there are people out there who are watching us and waiting for us to speak things that they can use against us. The Bible says here in Luke chapter 11 that the enemies of Christ tried to urge him to speak of many things, seeking to catch something out of his mouth in order to accuse him. My question is, why would anybody waste their time on trying to get someone in trouble, but especially someone like Jesus? Do these people not have better things to do with their time? Of course, Jesus never spoke a word of harm or wickedness which these men could use against him. But it still stands that these wicked men watched his every move. And friend, you or I are no different. People watch our every move, waiting for us to say something that they could use against us. Hardly anything is more frustrating than knowing that people are out there who have nothing better to do than to be busy bodies. This is why the psalmist prayed to God to set a watch before his mouth. It was because he knew that the enemy was watching his every move, just waiting for him to say something that he could use against him. Jesus said, "If they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also," (John 15:20). Despite the fact that Jesus said nothing wrong, they still used his words against him. In fact, they still do it to this day. Wicked men use the words of Jesus to deceive and to lead people astray. That just goes to show you the level of hatred these men have for an innocent person. But may God help us to keep our mouths shut while the wicked is before us. Proverbs 17:28 says, "Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding."
